Intel have the Core 2 Extreme QX6700 for $999 and the Core 2 Duo Q6600 for $850. They will release more mainstream parts and prices will come down over time, especially after the competition launch their quad core chips. AMD is going to release their quads in the second partly of this year.

They are out. Price is around $800+. I am waiting for AMD to release theirs since they are supposed to be backwards compatible beside my socket AM2 motherboard.
the prices of these are going to be very giant. Best bet is when they are released the price of AMD X2's and so will the equivialnt Intel's will drop. nothing will use a Quad processor for sometime. Games are singular just adjust to make use dual core processors
